COMMUNITY IDEAS

Statement

In an attempt to better understand the needs and wants of the villagers and townsfolk of Cazenovia. We have been launching a series of polls via our social media page (@cazenoviafirst on instagram) and compiling some of those wants here on this web page. These are simply put, in the idea stage of development, where they will remain until further research is done on the feasibility of executing any one idea. Should that research be concluded and a proper plan be put in place, the project will be posted in detail in the "Current Missions" drop down of this website.

DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA FOR CAZ?

LET US KNOW BY FILLING OUT THE FORM BELOW.

CURRENT IDEAS:

  • COMMUNITY MARINA ON CAZENOVIA LAKE: Despite the multitude of private slips in Cazenovia Lake for summer boat storage, including but not limited to those that belong to the Willow Bank Yacht Club and Brewster Inn. It has become apparent that members of the village need more options for summer boat storage for use on Cazenovia Lake. This idea envisions the potential of a community Marina located on Caz Lake in one of the public parks that would collect rent from anyone wishing to utilize the service, the rent would go back into the village government and the cost of maintaining the marina as a whole. This would make the lake more accessible for our growing community of Cazenovians who wish to enjoy the lake but have been unable to secure a good option for extended storage and mooring of their boats.

  • DOG PARK/DOG WALK "REFUSE" STATIONS: There is a large subset of the Caz community who own dogs and for the most part everyone does a great job of keeping our sidewalks clean, however, sometimes people forget their "doggy bags" or run out on their walk and doo-doo starts to accumulate. Basically, we want to use a small amount of our village budget to place trash receptacles and bag dispensers along "The Monday Mile" and perhaps in our parks so that nobody is ever caught without a proper option for maintaining a cleaner Cazenovia. In addition, perhaps we can explore the possibility of a small section of Park space to be zoned for public dog socializing.

  • PARKING EXPANSION: This is a very complicated subject matter to address in a simple list, but Cazenovia needs to have their public parking revamped completely. If this means a garage needs to be built in one of the less visible areas of our village, such as can be seen in towns like Saratoga Springs, that may be an option. Parking meters could also offer a solution. Regardless, we owe it to our visitors and our villagers alike that there be a reasonable availability of parking so that our business owners can be prosperous and our economy can grow.

  • LAKELAND PARK DEVELOPMENT: With the construction on the sea wall in Lakeland Park coming to completion, some people believe care must be taken in designing a more usable space within the park boundaries. Does this mean building a boardwalk? Maybe. Perhaps creating a small fenced in Dog Park? Perhaps. Maybe even a fenced in pickleball court? There is a lot of open space that has yet to be molded into something great, we'd like to discuss with community members about their ideas for this space. Feel free to share some of yours via the submission form.

  • GYPSY BAY DEVELOPMENT: As it stands right now, Gypsy Bay is one of two public beaches in Cazenovia. Much like the beach at Lakeland Park, Gypsy Bay's "beach front area" is very narrow and fills up quickly during summer months. The proposition for this idea is simply that we work to expand the beach frontage of Gypsy Bay, as well as parking for visitors. As well as add handicap accessible launches for kayaks and rafts. Perhaps even a public restroom. The grass to beach ratio at Gypsy Bay is 10 to 1, we believe evening the score would make for more tourism, but also make for a more enjoyable space for residents of the village.
